The History OfChotěboř

Chotěboř is a historic town in the Vysočina Region whose origins date back to the 13th century, when it developed as a small settlement on an important trade route between Bohemia and Moravia. It was first mentioned in written records in 1265 and gradually grew around a local fortress that later became the Chotěboř Castle.

Over the centuries the town prospered through crafts, trade, and nearby silver mining, although it was repeatedly affected by fires and wars, including damage during the Thirty Years' War. In the 19th century, the arrival of the railway supported industrial growth, shaping Chotěboř into the small regional center it remains today.
